Shehnai's wizard Bismillah Khan
Shehnai’s wizard Bismillah Khan is a matter of Shehnai and the name of Ustad Bismillah Khan should not come, it is not possible. He was born on March 21, 1916 in Dumraon, Bihar. His real name was Kamaruddin. It is said that Dada called ‘Bismillah’ at birth and that this name later echoed all over the world. He came to Banaras as a child. He started learning the clarinet at his Mamu Alibaksh Vilayati there. Alibksh Baba previously played the clarinet in the Vishwanath temple. Ustad Bismillah Khan mastered Ragas like Thumri, Chaiti, Kajri. He played clarinet every day in baby Vishwanath temple every day. In 1937, for the first time, he delivered public performance at the Indian Music Conference in Kolkata. From here he received recognition across the country. After independence, on August 15, 1947, Pandit Nehru raised the Tricolor of the Red Fort and Bismillah Khan congratulated the countrymen by playing the clarinet. On the first Republic Day in 1950, he also played Raga Kaifi of the Red Fort. He was also heard in films. He played the Shehnai in the Hindi film “Gunj Ruti Shehnai” and the Kannada film “Shaadi APNA”. He received honors such as Bharat Ratna (2001), Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. He was the third musician to receive the Bharat Ratna to Ms Subbulakshmi and Ravi Shankar.
