Iit Bhilai Phase-2 Construction Foundation Stone for the youth: Guru Khushwant Saheb
Bhilai, September 27 (IANS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation for phase-2 construction of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhilai on Saturday during a virtual ceremony. Chhattisgarh Minister of Technical Education Guru Khushwant Saheb and Ahiwara Mla Domanlal Corsewada were present at the event. This project opens new possibilities in the field of technical education, research and employment in Chhattisgarh. The Government of India approved R 2,257.55 crore for this project on May 29, 2025, of which Rs 1.092 crore will be spent on complex construction. The built area of IIT Bhilai under phase-2 will expand to 1,51,343 square meters. In this, new engineering and scientific departments, the state -of -the -arts -labs, ICT -competed lectures, equipment and prototype facilities are being developed. Upon completion of the project, the number of students will increase from 1500 to 3000, as well as recruitment of more than 300 faculties and office staff, which will increase jobs. Phase-2 also contains the construction of residences, junkhals, indoor sports complex, open-air theater, canteen, cricket, soccer and hockey grounds, tennis courts, residential centers, health centers and shopping malls. It will be established in Chhattisgarh’s first research park at a cost of Rs 96 crore. This research park will promote industry academic cooperation and will create a strong ecosystem for modern technological development. Technical Education Minister Guru Khushwant Saheb said: “PM Modi gave a great gift to ensure the future of the youth of Chhattisgarh. The approval was also received for the recruitment of 700 professors in the Department of Higher Education, which will increase the level of education in the state.” On this occasion, PM Modi also inaugurated IIT Bhilai as well as seven other IIT Patna, Indore, Jodhpur, Tirupati, Palakkad, Dharwad and Phase-2 of Jammu. Rajiv Prakash, director of IIT Bhilai, said this expansion would be the center of not only education, but also new opportunities for research and employment. He said this project is likely to be completed by October 2028, after which Chhattisgarh will be able to touch new heights in the field of technical education and research.
