In another setback for Kannada actress Harshavardhini Ranya, also known as Ranya Rao, her husband Jatin Hukkeri decided to submit for divorce. At a recent press conference, Jatin said he would apply for divorce from Ranya because he had endured pain and distress since they were married. “Since the day we got married, I have endured pain and distress. Today I made the decision to submit for divorce, ‘he said, as quoted by Times. After Ranya was arrested, Jatin also came under scrutiny. Police claimed that Jatin regularly traveled to Dubai with Ranya, from where she allegedly smuggled gold. Jatin is an architect by profession. He holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture and interior design of the RV College of Engineering, Bengaluru. He also conducted further studies at the Royal College of Art – Executive Education, London. Ranya, the stepdaughter of a DGP police officer in Karnataka, was arrested on March 3, shortly after returning from Dubai at Kempegowda International Airport. Jewelery Sahil Jain arrested the Revenue Intelligence Directorate (DRI), said jeweler Sahil Sakariya Jain played a key role in helping Ranya Rao with the disposal of 49.6 kg smuggled gold worth £ 40.14. According to the DRI’s detention note, Jain not only helped facilitate the illegal transaction, but Ranya also linked to the smuggling industry in Hawala money transfers. Jain was arrested on March 26 for helping Ranya in the golden smuggling case. He was transferred to legal supervision until April 7. “It seems that he (Sahil Jain) accused no. 1 (Ranya) assisted and dismissed in the disposal of about 49.6 kg of gold worth £ 40,13,59,374. £ 1,73,61,787 to A1 in Bengaluru,” the dri said. The agency further noted that the untouchable cash of £ 2.67 crore seized from Ranya’s home on March 4, according to the ‘Mahazar’ (seizure document), probably Hawala money she received as profit from the purchase of gold in Dubai and sold it in Bengaluru.
