(Add Details) Lisbon, May 17 (Reuters) -Sporting was crowned Portugal champions after beating Vitoria Guimaraes 2-0 in Primeira League on Saturday, as the title race and the relegations were decided on the last match day. Pedro Goncalves led the defending champions before 55 minutes before Viktor Gyokeres, doubled the advantage and sealed the points with a low strike in the right bottom corner. Sporting ends at the top of the standings at 82 points, two points above local opponents Benfica, who was held in a simultaneous kick-off to a 1-1 draw at 10-man Sporting Braga. Sporting and Benfica played a 1-1 draw last weekend to stay on points, but Sporting’s 1-0 victory in the reverse match in December meant they had a head-to-head lead, and that they just had to fit the outcome of Benfica on the last day. Sporting, which became champions for the 21st time, has won the first consecutive league titles since they claimed four in a row of 1951-54. Sporting was the better side in the first half, but couldn’t count it, as Bruno Varela, the goalkeeper of Vitoria, drove good efforts by Gyokeres and Francisco Trincao. Goncalves gave the lead to the interval and sent the ball off the left post. Defender Zeno Depast sent a low cross in the box before detecting Maximiliano Araujo Goncalves, who first beat. Midfielder General Catamo scored the post for sports shortly afterwards before the leading scorer Gyokeres of the league doubled the lead eight minutes of the full -time and scored his 39th goal of the campaign. The Sweden goal shooter leads the European Golden Boot standings in front of Kylian Mbappe and Mohamed Salah, both with 28 goals. Sporting was without the suspended captain Morten, after the Danish midfielder picked up a discussion in the derby. Smart hope away for Benfica Benfica, who searched a 39th championship on the last day, needed a better result than on the last day, but instead he was pushed further away from the title when they left behind in the 24th minute after Braga got a penalty. Rodrigo Zalazar confidently converted the place after a long overview of the VAR showed that Benfica defender Tomas Araujo took off Braga forward Ricardo Horta. Vangelis Pavlidis leveled Benfica after the hour point and recorded from a nearby series of an Angel Di Maria Pass from the nearby series. Braga was then left behind with 10 men in the 66th minute after midfielder Joao Moutinho showed a second yellow card. Sporting and Benfica will meet again in the Portuguese Cup final on May 25. Boavista and Farense were diverted from the upper flight, while the 16th placed AVS against Vizela, which finished third in the second level, faced the playoffs.
