Odisha Temple Stampede: Eyewitnesses said ‘people fall over each other’ in an early morning incident near the Gundicha Temple, which took three lives, injured dozens. An eyewitness said that “people fall over each other” and that several lost consciousness in a few minutes, stating that they rushed to the information center for help. However, the witness mentions that the center could not help, and the ambulance was about a kilometer from the scene, reports Ani. Swadhin Kumar Panda, who claimed to be on the spot at about 4am when it took place, said, “People started out of the entrance themselves, which increased the crowd,” and emphasized that management was “not good”. Pravati Das, 52, from Balipatna, Basanti Sahu, 42, who belongs to Godabhanga and Bhubaneswar’s Premakanta Mohanty, 78, was pronounced dead. “When this incident occurred, no one replied, neither the fire officers, nor the rescue team or the hospital team,” the man of one of the killed Ani informed. Senior government official Siddharth Shankar Swain told AP: “There was a sudden boom of the crowd of devoted because he had a glimpse of the Hindu gods, where few people fainted, suffocated or complained of breathing.” He added that 15 people were taken to a local government hospital, where three people were pronounced dead and the other 12 were released.
