Serious Kansas City Storm is dropping trucks, closing roads and leaving thousands without power | Today news
A powerful thunderstorm swept through the Kansas City area on Tuesday afternoon, which brought harmful winds that caused traffic and power over the entire region of great disruption. Strong winds overturned two semi-trucks on both sides of the state line. According to Kansas City Scout, one truck on the I-435 was skipped south between Raytown Road and Eastwood Trafficway. Another semi on I-635 south on parallel Parkway, which blocks several lanes in Wyandotte County. Traffic chaos continued on I-435 with an accident with two vehicles reported just past I-70, which led to the closure of the two left lanes on the southward side. In Leavenworth County, the Kansas Department of Transportation fully closed both north and southern K-5 between Eisenhower Road and East Mary Street near Lansing due to the severe weather. In addition to traffic problems, the storm caused widespread power cuts. Evergy, energy provider, reported that thousands of clients were left without electricity in the Kansas City metro area, while the teams worked to restore service. The condition can be seen on different photos shared on X. A user also showed what the tornado looked like from another part of the city. They shared a video with the heading: “It was the confirmed big and dangerous tornado on the ground and Blue Springs.” Earlier in the day, several tornado warnings were issued about the Metro area, although all have been canceled since then. Despite the extreme weather, no serious injuries have so far been reported. The authorities are calling on residents to stay careful as clearance efforts continue and the crew assesses damage. Managers are advised to avoid affected roads and keep abreast of traffic and weather warnings through official sources.
