Waka MPR insists on the overall implementation of the TPKS Act and its derivative rules

Jakarta – Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly Lestari Moerdijat (Rerie) emphasized that the overall implementation of Act number 12 of 2022 regarding criminal acts of sexual violence (TPKS) and their derivative rules must support all parties at the regional level. The urgency of implementing comprehensive protection policies due to the threat of sexual violence is reflected in the results of the 2024 National Women’s Life Experience Survey (SPHPN) that recorded one of four women of 15-64 years. “The spearhead of the implementation of the TPKS Act and a number of other rules is in the regions. The same understanding and capabilities of the stakeholders in the regions are needed to realize the general protection of the community against the threat of violent acts,” Rerie said in his statement, Sunday (5/10/2025). In response to this condition, the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenpppa) encourages the strengthening of services at regional level, which is the front line for protecting women and children. According to Rerie, strengthening women and child protection services at regional level requires a comprehensive protection for people against the threat of sexual violence, human resources (HR) that the policy understands and can realize. Attempts to strengthen the service, Rerie explains, must be followed immediately by concrete steps to prepare human resources in the regions to serve in accordance with the provisions instructed by law. “Massive socialization and the structure of collaboration between central and strong regional governments, one of the requirements to offer local human resources that can realize a comprehensive sexual violence protection system,” said the member of the House of Representatives Commission X of the Central Java District II. Rerie hopes that the Ministry of PPPPA’s efforts to strengthen women’s and children’s protection services will have the full support of stakeholders in the regions to realize the mandate of the 1945 Constitution that the state is obliged to protect each citizen from different forms of threats, including threats in the form of sexual violence.
