Shriyanka Sadangi ends eighth in the 50m rifle of women at the World Cup
Lima, April 18 (PTI) The Paris Olympics, Shriyanka Sadangi, finished eighth in the Women’s 50m Rifle 3 positions (3P) final on the third day of the ISSF World Cup/Pistol/Shotgun here. She became the latest Indian shooter on this double-legged South American soybean to finish the cut for a first individual world championship, but made the exit after the 10th shot of the standing position, the 40th of the 45-holding final. Sagen Maddalena of the US, the silver medalist in the Paris Games, won the gold. Sagen’s effort took the US with three gold and six medals to the top of the medal. India was second at the end of the competition on day three, with two gold medals and a silver and a bronze each. Indian shooters had a challenging day in general, with none of them achieving the men’s 3P final, and also to do with a lot after the first round of qualifying in the Men’s 25m Rapid-Fire Pistol (RFP) event. Also in the 3p women, the Indians struggled after the first two kneeling and susceptible positions. But all three – Shriyanka, Ashi Chouksey and the previous World Cup gold winner Sift Kaur Samra – picked up the pace admirably in the final position to make a line for the qualifying point. Shriyanka managed to take seventh place with a solid 588, while Ashi was stronger with accuracy than Sift, and took ninth place to the latter’s 11th, with both at 587 and thus carefully missed. In the final, the Indian started well with a 10.5 as her first attempt, but when the grind to the end point began in the right seriousness, Shriyanka chased out. Her best chance was when she moved up to sixth place, with two more shots of the second prone position, but yields of 9.8 and 9.3 effectively deprived her challenge. She closed with a 9.9 when her final shot wrapped with 400.7, while she was placed with seventh place, the Brazilian Geovana Meyer. In the men 3p, Aishwary Tomar, Niraj Kumar and Chain Singh finish at 17th, 18th and 19th respectively. The first two shooters shot identical scores of 587 to miss the last qualifying point with a few points, while chain shot 586. There was also 25 m action on the day with Anish, Vijayveer Sidhu and Gurpreet Singh all finished the first day of qualifying in the men’s fast firing pistol outside the top six qualifying point.
