At the command of the Department of Home Affairs, 6 sub-carnaras were completely discontinued, while 3 sub-carriers were closed and merged into the district prisons concerned. With this step, many prisoners will be transferred to district prisons. The process of secure transfer has begun. At the same time, preparations are also made to appoint the employees of the sub -corporations elsewhere and reduce the number of posts. The state currently has a total of 88 prisons. These include 6 Circle Prison, 11 District Prison, 2 Special Prison, 1 Female Prison in Sambalpur, 6 Independent Sub-Carts, 62 General Sub-Carts and 1 Open Jail in Jamujhari. These prisons have a total capacity of 19799 prisoners. This includes the stay of 17,957 male prisoners and 1,842 female prisoners. Currently, 17,497 prisoners are closed in these prisons.
