MSP Boost: Acquisition of Moon and Urad under Price Support Scheme in MP, UP | Today news

New -delhi: Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday approved Moong and Urad in Madhya Pradesh and Urad in Uttar Pradesh, under the Price Support Scheme (PSS). PSS is usually implemented when prices of pulses, oilseeds and copra fall below the MSP (minimum support price) during peak crop periods, and are intended to ensure that farmers receive compensation prices for their products. Similarly, approval was granted for the acquisition of URAD under PSS in Uttar Pradesh, the government said in a statement. The case was discussed at a meeting by Madhya Pradesh Minister of Farmers’ Wealth and Agriculture Development Aidal Singh Kansana, Uttar Pradesh Minister of Agriculture, Surya Pratap Shahi, Union Agricultural Secretary, Devesh Chaturvedi, and other senior officials. MSP increased the MSP for Summer Moon (Green Gram) for the 2025-26 season, increased to £ 8,768 per quinting of £ 8,682 in 2024-25. The MSP for Urad was also set at £ 7,800 per quintal for the marketing season 2025-26. This represents a £ 400 increase compared to the previous year. Under PSS, farmers receive an MSP for their products, especially during periods of price reduction. The scheme protects the income of the farmers and stimulates wrist production. At a meeting in New -Delhi, Chouhan declared that although the decision to obtain Moon and Urad would place a significant financial burden on the central government, it was committed to ensuring that farmers received the intended benefits. Direct acquisition of farmers will reduce the influence of middlemen and ensure that the actual benefit reaches the farmers. He issued directions to officials and asked that the latest and most effective technologies be used for proper registration of farmers. He advised to increase the number of procurement centers if necessary and to ensure that the entire process is performed in a fair and transparent way. Chouhan has raised concrete steps and concerns about complaints of irregularities in the storage. He has assured the Agriculture Minister of Uttar Pradesh that the central government will put in all possible effort in the best interests of farmers. The government has allowed the acquisition of Tur (Arhar), Urad and Masur under the PSS to 100% of the production of the various state for the acquisition year 2024-25 to encourage farmers and improve the domestic production of pulses, while reducing the country’s dependence on imports.
