Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India]June 9 (Ani): Well -known Tamil lyrics and poet Vairamuthu calls the Tamil film industry for using the lyrics of his songs as film titles without seeking his consent. Vairamuthu showed to his X handle how many of its popular lyrics have been converted into film titles over the years, often without anyone looking for his consent. His post, written in Tamil, loosely translated as: “Many of my verses were used by the Tamil film industry as film titles. None of those who took it asked for my permission or even asked a word of respect.” In a long post on X, the lyric also quoted some popular Tamil films that used its lyrics as their film titles. While the lyrics did not mention the copyright issue, he called out the Tamil film industry for their discouragement and did not seek permission until he used it. He wrote: “Despite taking my lyrical lines without recognition, I have never rebuked anyone, nor did I question it wherever and wherever I met them. In a society where wealth does not have in common, I take joy in becoming knowledge at least a common property. “The post received mixed reactions from the netizens, with many saying that the lyrics used in his songs did not need permission to be converted into film titles as it is part of the Tamil language. In response to the post, actor Aadhav Kannadasan, known for his films’ Yaamirukka Bayame Him (lyricist vairamuthu) sought to use his lyrics as the film title for his film ‘Ponmaalai Pozhudhu’ in 2013. who was honored with a Padma Shri, a Padma Bhushan and a Sahitya Akademi Award for his abundance of literary production.
