The India Meteorological Department (IMD) placed Mumbai under a yellow warning for September 15, with predictions of more thunderstorms throughout the day. The warning will remain in effect until Tuesday, September 16th. Authorities have warned about possible weakening and traffic congestion in low -lying areas. Mumbai Rains: How is traffic derived? Water logging has been reported in the southern and central parts of the city, which raises concerns for commuters. Authorities confirmed that traffic at Andheri Subway (Andheri West) was closed due to flooding. The IMD predicted heavy rainfall in northeastern Maharashtra in the coming days. On Saturday, Konkan, Goa and Marathwada recorded between 120-200 mm of rain, while Madhya Maharashtra and East Madhya Pradesh 70–110 mm saw. A low pressure system is expected to move over Northern Telangana and Vidarbha, along with a cyclonic circulation, North West and continue as an upper level disturbance. How serious was the rain in Pune? Meanwhile, heavy rain and thunderstorms in Pune on Sunday night caused the fear of flooding. Social media is flooded with videos of ‘crackled’ and ‘horrific’ lightning. The IMD issued a red warning for the city at 4am on Monday, valid until 7am. Red warnings were also sounded for Solapur and Ahmednagar, with orange warnings for Thane and Raigad, and yellow warnings for Nashik, Palghar, Jalana and Nagpur. What about Pune’s water reservoirs? According to the Times of India, three of the four dams that supply water to pune recorded fresh inflows. Varasgaon received 21 mm of rain, pansed 20 mm and Temghar 3 mm. Their combined storage has now reached 29.09 TMC, which is almost 998% of capacity.
