Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]May 16 (Ani): Actor Vijay Raaz, known for his roles in ‘Stree’, ‘Delhi Belly’ and others, has been acquitted of sexual harassment and charges submitted by a colleague on the sets of the film ‘Sherni’ who also play Vidya Balan. The additional Chief Law Magistrate’s Court in Gondia acquired actor Vijay Razz of all charges in a case of sexual harassment that was brought against him in 2020 during the recording of a film in Gondia and Balaghat. The court found him not guilty after completing the hearing, and he was acquitted on all charges against him. The ruling, pronounced by Judge Mahendra Keshao Sorte, cleared the 51-year-old actor of allegations under the Indian Criminal Act divisions 354-A (sexual harassment) and 354-D (pursuit), citing a lack of evidence and the failure of prosecution to effect guilt on a reasonable doubt. The case dates back to October 25-29, 2020, when a female crew member accused Razz of inappropriate behavior, including unwelcome physical contact and suggestive remarks, during a film recording at Hotel Gateway in Gondia and later at Jatashankar College in Balaghat. His lawyer and well -known celebrity lawyer Saveena Bedi Sachar said that the actor who shot close to Nagpur for ‘Sherni’ should not only leave the film Shoot Midway, but also lost work afterwards. However, he is now declared innocent and his hope that this case serves as an example for people who declare each accused guilty as soon as the allegations are charged against him. According to the fir submitted on November 3, 2020, the actor allegedly tried to touch the complainant, adjusting her mask without permission and commenting on her physical appearance. The woman later reported the incident to her seniors and filed a complaint with the Ramnagar police station. The incident dates back to November 4, 2020, when Raaz in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh, was arrested for the allegations of the molestation of a crew member in a hotel where the film staff remained. He was released on bail the same day. During the investigation, police seized CCTV footage from the hotel and recorded witnesses of witnesses. However, the court noted that: key witnesses did not see the incident directly. CCTV footage could not definitely support the allegations. The most important complainant was not available to testify, as she died before the hearing closed. Prosecuting witnesses became hostile or could not confirm the seizure procedures or content of documents. As a result, the court concluded that the prosecution failed to prove the accused’s involvement in any sexual misconduct and that Razz did not declare guilty. The court also ordered the cancellation of Razz bail, the return of the bail amount and the destruction of the seizure to the appeal period. He was instructed to provide a sponsor of Rs. 7,000 for six months under section 437-A of CRPC to be present if any appeal is submitted. (Ani)
