Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir chief minister, Omar Abdullah, made it clear Wednesday that the talks related to the recovery of the state status of Jammu and Kashmir did not stop due to the Pahalgam terror attack. Abdullah said he raised the issue in the recent meeting of the Niti Aayog Governing Council. Abdullah told reporters at this tourist place in North Kashmir, 52 km from Srinagar,: “No, not at all. Abdullah answered the question of whether the Pahalgam terror attack influenced the talks about the recovery of state status to Jammu and Kashmir. He said: “That’s why the conversation about state status is not stopped. The only thing I didn’t want to do was (Jammu and Kashmir) to use the special session of the meeting to talk about the state status. But that doesn’t mean the conversation stopped.” As far as tourism is concerned, the chief minister presented a meeting in Gulmarg and said that Kashmiris should visit tourist destinations in the valley before expecting people to return from other parts of the country. He said: “There must be publicity and live activities in these places. I asked the Minister of Education to start a picnic for schools and colleges so that we can return to the normal situation.” The meeting was attended by top civilian administration officials, in addition to the inspector general of the police, Kashmir, Deputy Inspector General of Northern Kashmir and Senior Superintendent of Baramullah police. Earlier, Abdullah served the meeting of his Council of Ministers in Pahalgam, South Kashmir, on May 27. The purpose behind the meetings outside the Fested Civil Secretariat is to give people a sense of safety and confidence. Abdullah said: “Our effort is that the message states that Jammu and Kashmir are ready for tourism.” He also said that people from other places should not hold Kashmiris responsible for the attack of 26 tourists. He said: “The people of Kashmir did not attack it. It was not done for our consent or our benefit. But even if you punish the people of Kashmir, they boycott, what we will do? Abdullah also said that Jammu and Kashmir are a trade union area, so law and order and safety are not the responsibility of the elected government. He said: “Whose responsibility is this? Of the lieutenant -Governor. Therefore, there are three centers of power, which must be coordinated to ensure that things run smoothly here. I can promote tourism, I can build an infrastructure, I can ensure that tourists can travel well, but the safety of tourists is currently under the powers of LG.” About the author Rakesh Ranjan Kumar Rakesh Ranjan Kumar has over ten years of experience in digital journalism.
