The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to disclose the names of 65 Lakh people who were removed from the voters list by August 19, while hearing the special intensive review (SIR) case of the voters list in Bihar. During the hearing, Justice Joymalya Bagchi said Bihar is the birthplace of democracy and transparency in the voters list. Rakesh Dwivedi, lawyer for the Electoral Commission, said the total voters in Bihar until April 1, 2025 were 7.89 crore, of which 7.24 crore filled the form, while 65 lakh names were from the draft, of which 22 was pronounced dead. Dwivedi made clear that no one was removed in the draft prol for no reason, and those who only filled the form will have to submit documents in August.
