Welcome the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, residents of Ayuka & Tipuka enthusiastically participated in the SEKA Dance Competition
Jakarta – Residents of Kampung Ayuka and Tipuka are enthusiastic about the participation in the SEKA Dance Competition held by PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) to welcome the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia. They wore traditional Papuan costumes such as brush dresses and bead crown. Claus Wamafma, director of sustainable development at PTFI, said this competition is a form of cultural conservation of the Kamoro tribe that lived on the Mimika Coast. This activity gives room for art and cultural expressions for the local community. “This Seka Dance Competition is an appreciation and attempt to preserve the Papuan culture, especially the Kamoro tribe that lives on the Mimika coast. The Seka Dance Competition was held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 in the Village Hall. Seka Dance is a traditional dance of the Kamoro tribe that symbolizes gratitude to the ancestors and is a symbol of a combination of local wisdom with nationalism. The competition was attended by six groups, each consisting of 10 to 12 people, with a total of 72 participants. The jury consists of Kartini Mitapo, a cultural lover of Kamoro from the Tipuka village; Mananeke, artist Kamoro of Ayuka Village; and Yulius, representatives of the army. The winners of this competition include: Champion 1 was won by Ayuka 3 group with a value of 2.130, 2nd place in the Aruka We Tipuka 1 group and 3rd place were won by Ayuka 2 teenagers. Chairman of the winning group Martinus Mitapo expressed his joy because he was able to show the Kamoro culture to the participants and guests. “We have been practicing for a month and very happy to win. But most importantly, we can show our culture to everyone in this place,” Martinus said enthusiastically. Meanwhile, the Tipuka village head of Paulus Polytelli appreciated the support of PTFI that helped strengthen the local culture and build the love of the younger generation of the ancestral culture. “Activities like this are very important to strengthen culture and raise talent from children and the community and keep the younger generation more of their ancestral culture. Thank you to Ptfi who continues to attend with us,” he said. For information, the SEKA Dance Competition is one of the 80th anniversary activities of the Republic of Indonesia organized by PTFI, along with the Ayuka and Tipuka community to strengthen the togetherness and love of the motherland through a cultural approach. During August, PTFI held different activities that drain the spirit of nationalism and mutual cooperation in five points of the PTFI workplace, from upstream in Papua- including Tembagapura, Kuala Kencana and Nabire to downstream in Gressik, East Java and Jakarta. In Tembagapura, various competitions and cultural actions were with the residents of Kampung Banti. In Mimika, residents enthusiastically participated in social and clean services of Ayuka and Tipuka villages, as well as competitions for children and adults. Meanwhile, in Nabire, a free cataract industry, education and free eye examination for 1,000 schoolchildren, and the spread of 500 free glasses. In Gresik there was a blood donor, Gresik Umkm Digital Training, as well as the copper Nusantara Melody Concert. The highlight was the 80th memorial ceremony of the 80th Indonesian independence by all employees and contractors at five points of PTFI’s workplace. The entire series of activities was performed with a spirit of mutual cooperation and togetherness with residents around the operational area.
