Golf-Scheffler, Rahm and Vegas in a three-way share of Quail Hollow Lead
(Recovery after overnight leader Turn) by Frank Pingue Charlotte, North Carolina, May 17 (Reuters) -Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm and Jhonattan Vegas shared the PGA Championship on Saturday at the Quail Hollow Club where the US Open Champion Bryson Dechambeau was back. World Number One Scheffler pitched his first hole, but made a move with three birds over a four hole, the last one of a seven-foot on the par-five seven that moved him into the joint lead. Scheffler reached the turn in two under 35. Spaniard Rahm, who started six shots behind the overnight leader Vegas that day, made three consecutive behind-nine birds and was five under the day with two holes to play. Vegas, whose overnight lead disappeared after a Bogey-Bogey-Begin, had a great chance to regain the live lead after driving the first fourth hole, but could not pay in from 26 feet. The 40-year-old Venezolaan took his approach to the first near the lip of a green bunker from where he hit within 24, with his heels hanging over the edge of the danger and then hung for Bogey. On the fourth second, Vegas again hit a faulty tea shot and was forced to spray from the trees to another Bogey, but he refused to return. DeChambeau, who completed the runner-up at last year’s PGA Championship, was freely free after covering his first 12 holes in three. Kim Si-Woo and Davis Riley were also level with DeChambeau. The bad weather caused a delay of almost 3-1/2 hours at the beginning of the third round, which resulted in a decision to send players down in groups of three of split teas instead of pairs of the first time.
