What we know and still don't know about a private aircraft in a San Diego neighborhood

Authorities investigated the reason why a private aircraft crashed in San Diego early Thursday, killed two people, damaged homes and set fire to cars in the largest Housing neighborhood of the US Army. At least 100 residents were moved to a nearby primary school that served as an evacuation center, the San Diego Police Department said. The accident is being investigated by the Federal National National Transportation Safety Board. The plane is from New Jersey to San Diego on his way to a fuel stop in Kansas. It crashed about 3 kilometers from San Diego’s Montgomery Gibbs’ Executive Airport. The authorities have not yet shared details of what led to the accident, but said they are investigating whether the plane has cut a power line. Two people died in the accident, Dan Eddy, assistant fire chief, said at a news conference. The plane can hold eight to ten people, but it is unclear how much was on board. The aircraft is owned by Daviation LLC, based in Alaska, according to the Federal Aviation Administration Records, which also shows that the owner also had at least one address in San Diego and had a pilot license. The Associated Press could not immediately reach the owner, his family or business partners. Hours after the accident, a person, who was injured by a window as he tried to flee, was taken to the hospital and was treated, said Anthony Carrasco, San Diego police officer. Five more people from a single family are transported by ambulance for smoke inhalation. Two others were treated at the scene for minor injuries. It was also not immediately clear why the plane crashed, although Eddy said with the fog, “You could barely see before you.” In the neighborhood, the smell of jet fuel sat in the air hours after the accident, while the authorities worked to extinguish one stubborn car fire. Black smoke is recruited. Half a dozen fully charred cars sat on the street, and tree limbs, glass and pieces of white and blue metal were scattered. Although no observable body of the aircraft could be seen, pieces of metal ran the street from it. Wahl said Jet Fuel walked down the street and “set everything on fire at one time.” Christopher Moore, who lives from the accident site one street, said he and his wife are waking up by a loud bang, and he saw smoke out the window. The couple grabbed their three young boys and ran out of the house. They saw a car in flames on their way from the neighborhood. San Diego officials did not immediately disclose details about the aircraft, but said it was a flight from the Middle West. The Flight Tracking Site Flightaware contains a Cessna Citation II-Jet scheduled to arrive at Montgomery Gibbs Airport in San Diego at about 3:47 p.m. Wichita’s airport director said the plane made a fuel stop there. According to Flightaware, the flight originated in Teterboro, New Jersey, on Wednesday night. The airport is about 10 kilometers from Manhattan and is regularly used by private and corporate jets. In October 2021, a twin car aircraft plowed into a suburb in San Diego and killed the pilot and an ups delivery driver on the ground and burned homes. It was preparing to land at the airport. In December 2008, a US Marine Corps fighter plane hit a home in the University City neighborhood in San Diego, causing an explosion that killed four people inside. The Marine Corps blamed mechanical failure and human error.
