Vellore, April 15 (IANS). Tensions arose in the town of Kattu Kolai in the Virinchipuram area in the Vellore district of Tamil Nadu when about 150 families living four generations learned that the land on which they settled is the property of the WAQF board. It is said that this country is connected to the Nawab Mosque and Hazrat Syed Ali Sultan Shah Dargah. The case created anger among the locals, who now demand the resolution of the district administration dispute. Families living in Kattu Koli Village say they live their lives through farming and other activities on this country for decades. Many families have built their homes here and have lived here for generations. Recently, Syed Sadam, related to Hazrat Syed Ali Sultan Shah Dargah, sent notice to the residents of the town and demanded (tax). The notice claims that this land is the property of the Waqf Council and that the Dargah manages it. This notice stirred the residents as they had never received such information before. Residents say they have land documents, proving their ownership. They are amazed at why the Waqf Council and the Dargah filed their claim on this country. The people of the town united on this matter and contacted the Vellore District Collector Subbulakshmi. The collector gave the assurance to start an investigation into the case and to take the residents’ complaint seriously. The district administration said that all the documents related to the ownership of the land will be investigated and that the dispute will be resolved properly. The collector has called on the residents to maintain patience and assure that no family will be evicted without the right procedure. Local people are in a hurry. Many residents say that this dispute could become a threat to their existence and future. The demands of the Waqf Council and the Dargah not only caused tension in the village of Kattu Koli, but the matter also emphasizes the widespread issues related to WAQF properties. The residents hope that the District Administration investigation will reveal the truth and that they will gain authority over their land. Meanwhile, the district administration has called on all parties to maintain peace and said that appropriate steps will be taken soon. -Ians Akks/CBT Share this story Tags
