Vinayak Pandurang Karmarkar: First craftsman to make Chhatrapati Shivaji's bronze statue

New -delhi, June 12 (IANS). Vinayak Pandurang Karmarkar was a famous craftsman of the country. He was also known as Nana Saheb Karmarkar. Karmarkar built a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji’s half -and -half feet high bronze and was the first sculptor of the country to make such a statue. Vinayak Pandurang Karmarkar was born on October 2, 1891, in Saswane in the Raigad district Maharashtra. He belonged to the Farmer family. Since childhood, he has been interested in sculpture/craftsmanship, which over time has grown more and came to a young age, he has decided to make a career in this area. It has never been easy to make a career in the field of sculpture and get your identity. It was even more difficult in Karmarkar’s era. But on the basis of his determination and hard work, he made a way for himself. Based on his technical skills, studies and confidence, he not only established himself in the field of sculpture, but also emerged as the veteran of the region. The specialty of his idols is artistry as well as liveliness. Vinayak Pandurang Karmarkar was a student of Sir Jamshedji Jijabhai School of Art of Mumbai. He was the top of the exam and awarded the Lord Mayo Medal. Vinayak Pandurang Chhatrapati is best known for Shivaji Maharaj’s idols. It is also an important reason for its popularity in Maharashtra as well as the country. In addition, there was a great question for the idols of Lord Ganesha at the Ganesh festival. Through his sculpture, he received a lot of respect in the country and abroad. In 1964 he was awarded ‘Padma Shri’. Karmarkar Museum Museum was erected in his home in Saaswane Village near Alibag, where an exhibition of his idols was erected. People interested in sculpture visit the museum.
