New -Delhi, May 16 (IANS). Trade and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recently discussed with senior representatives of the electronic industry to increase the safety of electrical equipment for consumers. Union Minister Goyal said on social media platform X: “There was a significant conversation with the most important stakeholders of the electronic industry. In this conversation, the implementation of horizontal quality controls (QCO) was discussed to increase the safety of electrical equipment in the interest of consumers.” He said in a note on social media platform X: “In addition, the search for opportunities to increase development and global competition has been discussed.” Horizontal Quality Controls Orders (QCO) are government rules, which make the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) compulsory for specific products. Its purpose is to ensure quality and safety by preventing poor imports and promoting domestic manufacturing. BIS must be the standard mark for production, selling, trading, import or stock products under QCO. QCO aims to protect consumers, promote fair trade and support domestic industries by combating poor imports and ensuring quality standards. BIS serves as maintenance and certification authority for products under QCO. So far, a total of 187 orders of quality control covered 769 products for compulsory certification of BIS have been notified by various regulators and ministries of the Government of India. The protection (quality control) order of domestic, commercial and electrical equipment (quality control) order, 2024, was issued by the Department of Industries and Internal Trade of the Ministry of Trade and Industry. Through the QCO (Quality Control Order), all electrical equipment for domestic, commercial or uniform applications that do not vary the 250 volt single phase, or 415 volt three -phase alternans stream exceeded and not issued under the Indian Standards Bureau Act under any other quality control order, under the compulsive certification. Bringing products under compulsory quality control order and implementation of QCO depends on the requirements of the relevant ministries/departments. In consultation with BIS, under the BIS Act, 2016, the Ministry/Department of QCOs publishes, which causes the products to fall under BIS -sheltered certification. -Ians skt/kr
