Treaty signed to make the international headquarters of Big Cat Alliance in India

New -Delhi, April 17 (IANS). The organization signed an agreement with the central government on Thursday to form the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) headquarters and secretariat in India. It became a treaty-based intergovernmental organization in 2025. At the headquarters agreement, Secretary (Eastern Region) P. Kumaran and Director General of IBCA SP Yadav in New Delhi signed. The Foreign Ministry said in a statement: “The agreement provides for India offering the IBCA headquarters and secretariat, which includes the IBCA necessary provisions for complying with the proposed objectives and effective execution of its official functions.” The Government of India will provide a budget support of Rs 150 crore to the IBCA to create a fund for five years from 2023-24 to 2028-29 for the construction of infrastructure and the repetitive expenses. The International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) was launched by Premier Narendra Modi on April 9, 2023, during an event organized in Mysuru to celebrate the completion of 50 years of Project Tiger. The Union Cabinet approved its establishment on February 29, 2024 with the headquarters in India. The main purpose of the IBCA is to preserve seven Big Cats, IE Tigers, Lions, Leopards, Cheetahs, Jaguar and Puma, with the goals of collaboration and coordination facilities between the relevant stakeholders, the ease of successful protection practices and the preservation of major cats worldwide. also had a partnership with IBCA.
