Ten years of nuclear deal 2015 complete, now no restrictions on us: Iran

Tehran, October 18 (IANS). Iran’s foreign ministry said the deadline for curbs on its nuclear programs had now passed, but Tehran remained committed to diplomacy. He said these things after the completion of 10 years of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action Commission (JCPOA) on October 18. Iran says it is no longer bound by sanctions as the landmark 10-year deal between it and world powers expires. “From now on, all provisions of (the 2015 agreement), including sanctions on the Iranian nuclear program and related mechanisms, will be considered terminated,” Iran’s foreign ministry said in a statement on the day of the deal’s expiration. It added: “Iran is serious about its commitment to diplomacy.” Mehr News Agency quoted the statement as saying that the original goal of including Iran’s nuclear issue on the agenda of the Security Council, that is to confirm the peaceful nature of its related program, has been fully achieved. The ministry clarified that no report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has given any indication that the country’s nuclear activities are being diverted to military purposes, despite political pressure from the United States and its European allies. The statement also emphasized that Iran has consistently met its nuclear obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action 2015 nuclear agreement (ratified by resolution 2231), despite severe sanctions, while Western countries have repeatedly violated their obligations. “Iran has maintained transparency and compliance, but the irresponsible US withdrawal in 2018 and the failure of the European troika (UK, France and Germany) to fulfill its obligations have dealt a major blow to multilateral diplomacy,” the ministry said. In addition, the statement condemned the activation of the “snapback” mechanism, under which Western allies and the Security Council consider it mandatory to reimpose nuclear sanctions against Iran. At the same time, Iran believes that due to its non-commitment, the three countries have lost all their legal and moral right to take this step. Let us tell you that in June 2025, the US attacked Iranian nuclear installations after five rounds of indirect nuclear talks with Tehran (which stalled on other issues, including nuclear enrichment). The US fully supported Israel in this. Israel said the attack on Iran’s top military leaders, nuclear scientists, uranium enrichment sites and ballistic missile program was the result of the Islamic Republic’s declared plan to destroy Israel. –IANS KR/
