Pro-Israel Academic Peter Berkowitz invited PBNUNE, YAHYA STAQUF apologized
Jakarta – Chairman of the executive council of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBUNE), Yahya Cholil Staquf, apologized to the invitation of academics from the United States, Peter Berkowitz, who has a pro -israeli background. Gus Yahya acknowledged that he was not careful in the resource person’s selection process. “I apologize for the supervision of the invitation of Peter Berkowitz without regard to his Zionist background. This just happened because of my lack of kinds to perform selection and invite resource persons,” Gus Yahya said. Gus Yahya emphasized that PBNUNE’s attitude towards the struggle of the Palestinian people never changed. PBNU still supports Palestinian independence and sovereignty as an independent country. He also emphasized that PBNU had condemned various violent acts and cruel attacks carried out by the Israeli government against civilians in Gaza. PBNU condemned the actions of genocide performed by Israel. “Pbnu and I condemned the brutal acts of genocide carried out by the Israeli government in Gaza,” Gus Yahya said. He also called on all parties, both nationally and internationally, to work hard to stop genocide in Gaza and seek peace that is fair and sustainable. As is known, the name Peter Berkowitz appears after filling the opportunity at the University of Indonesia. The community then protested it because of a very vocal background to support Israel’s genocide for Palestine. From several articles he wrote, Berkowitz regarded Israel’s colonialism against Palestine as the right to defend themselves. The goal is that the best cadres of now understand the global geopolitical map and are able to navigate the direction of the Nu’s struggle forward. Nu will be designed as an intensive program to print future NU leaders at national level. Participants will be equipped with strategic knowledge of global actors, world important areas, for international issues relevant to the position of Indonesia and now in global constellation.
