In China, a 2-year-old boy survived a few days alone after his 28-year-old mother was found dead in their rented apartment. Myanmian’s survival story shook Chinese social media. The case was originally reported by Dahe Daily. On August 17, police were called by a friend who was unable to contact Zheng Yu for days. Inside the cramped, junk of 10 square meters, her son was dirty and poorly discovered, reports the South China Morning Post. The toddler only survived on snacks, jellies, a pumpkin and herbal tea spread around the room. He wears a dirty diaper and a short -sleeved shirt. A friendly neighbor cleaned him, cooked noodles with an egg and gave him fresh clothes before being taken to the hospital. Medical checks confirm that little Myanmian did not harm. He now lives at his birth father, who has five children to look at. Zheng’s life was full of hardships and struggles. She grew up in a poor family where both her parents had intellectual disabilities. They depended on welfare. Zheng and her sister were raised by their grandmother. Later, Zheng had three children from different relationships. Her first two were taken by their fathers. She met Myanmian’s father online, although they were never officially married. Their relationship broke after the birth of her son in February 2023. In the same month, Zheng cut contact with him. “She is not allowed to raise her previous children, which is why she became very attached to this youngest boy. She said she would rely on him for support at her age, ‘SCMP quoted one of her family members. “She even threatened suicide to fight for supervision,” the family member said. Online posts showed Zheng’s health problems, including blood pressure and sugar problems. Her family suspects she died of a sudden illness, not by choice. The cause of her death is still investigating. According to her family, Zheng “would not have abandoned the child to do something foolish”.
