Microsoft dismisses another employee who interrupted the speech of CEO Satya Nadella to protest against AI Tech for Israel | Today news
Microsoft recently fired another employee who interrupted a speech by CEO Satya Nadella to protest against the company for the provision of the Israeli army with technology used for the Gaza war. Employee-Joe Lopez-who worked on parts of Microsoft’s cloud computer platform, Azure, could be heard that he was shouted at Nadella in the opening minutes of the technical giant’s annual Build Developer Conference in Seattle before being escorted out of the room. What did the protester say, “Satya, how are you how to kill Microsoft Palestinians,” Lopez yells. “How are you how to drive Israeli war crimes by Azure?” Lopez could be heard that he was screaming at Nadella, reports The Guardian. After the disruption, Lopez sent ‘Ne post to all the staff of the company and explained his decision to set a protest march. The advocacy group No Azure for Apartheid, led by Microsoft’s employees and former employees, said that Lopez received a term of termination after his protest, but could not open it. The group also said that the technical giant blocked internal emails containing words, including ‘Palestine’ and ‘Gaza’, reports AP. What Microsoft said last week, Microsoft acknowledged that he had provided AI services to the Israeli army for the Gaza war. However, the company said it has so far found no evidence that its Azure Cloud or AI instruments have been used to directly target or harm civilians in the region. As for the latest protests, Microsoft remained silent. According to AP, the technical giant has not yet responded to emails asked about the setback at the four-day developer conference, which concluded on Thursday. Two other Microsoft employees fired Lopez’s demonstration against his former employer Microsoft is the second of its kind in the past two months. On April 6, two Microsoft workers – Ibtihal Ashboussad and Vaniya Agrawal, disrupted a Microsoft AI event and called the company’s head of Artificial Intelligence (AI) – Mustafa Suleyman – a war profit. Both workers have since been fired. Google also saw similar internal protests and mass fire last year about its contracts with the Israeli army and the government.
