The congress attacked the central government over the situation in Ladakh, strong condemnation of Sonam Wangchuk's arrest
New -Delhi, September 27 (IANS). The congress attacked the central government over the weakened situation in Ladakh and the arrest of environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge issued a statement criticizing the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) and the Modi government, saying that the pursuit of the people of Ladakh was repeatedly betrayed. “Congress condemns the government’s disgraceful failure in Ladakh and arrest under Sonam Wangchuk’s Safety Act (NSA),” said Malikarjun Kharge by his official ‘X’ post. He said that there has been an atmosphere of unrest in Ladakh over the past one year. The people there demand special status under the sixth schedule of the Constitution, but the government does not listen to them or any communication. On the contrary, people who protest have oppression and violence. The President of Congress said the BJP promised to bring Ladakh under the sixth schedule, but now the promise has also been forgotten. Mallikarjun Kharge further said: “The congress part wants peace in Ladakh. We have secured harmony and safety in this border region. We have respected the spirit as well as national security equally.” He expressed concern about the death of four innocent youth and injuries to many others in the incidents in Ladakh and demanded a judicial inquiry into these cases. Kharge wrote at the end of his official ‘X’ post, ‘Ladakh must revive and restore democratic institutions and democracy.’ At the same time, Jammu and the Deputy Chief Minister of Kashmir, Surinder Kumar Chaudhary, mentioned the arrest of social activist Sonam Wangchuk as a joke of democracy. He said he was fighting for climate change and that he raised his voice on issues such as global warming and melting of glaciers. Referring to Sonam Wangchuk, he said that putting her in jail will not eliminate Ladakh’s problems. -Ians VKU/DSC shares this story Tags
