The Gazette mentions that the census process will be completed in two phases. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has issued an official notice for the census stating that the first phase will begin from October 1, 2026, which will include Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, while the second phase will start in the rest of the country from 1 March 2027.
