The Delhi government intends to set up a new multi-storey building for the fire department and earn revenue from its commercial use under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The two -story Delhi Fire Service Bhawan on Barakhambha road was inaugurated in the 1960s. In his budget speech, Chief Minister Velha Gupta announced the upgrading of the current fire headquarters to the building with multiple floors. An official said that Delhi’s fire service received about 200 calls on normal days and that this number increases during the summer or festivals. The government intends to build a building that will have different units of Delhi fire service, and some floors will be for commercial purposes. There is a plan to build this building without any cost for the government and meetings are held to discuss it. He said that the Delhi (building) fire service is located in a prominent place, and if the building remains semi-business, it will give the government great income. The design of the building will be iconic and sophisticated. The government also intends to organize a global tender competition to choose the best architect for designing the building.
