Bald Eagle Stares Down Family for Full Day in Wild Video – ryan

After a bald eagle sat outside their home for more than a day, a Washington family discovered why the big bird refused to leave them alone.

In a now-viral video from Stacy Goss, the family was startled by the sight of a huge bald eagle gawking at them, but more concerningly, at their dog Gnocchi. “What the hell?” Stacy uttered, while Gnocchi growled at the lurking bird before retreating.

Bald eagles can be up to three feet long, with a wingspan range of 6 to 7.5 feet, according to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. They tend to hunt fish, water birds or small mammals, the department’s site reads, though — in the right context — they’ll hunt something bigger. They’re “opportunistic” hunters, National Zoo‘s site stated.

Stacy’s husband Jim speculated that the bald eagle wanted to eat their dog — and probably would if Gnocchi dared to venture outside.

The pair noticed the bald eagle had been tagged, which meant a wildlife agency had been tracking the bird for research. In an update posted to Stacy’s Instagram, the couple shared that the WDFW came out to assess their situation.

The situation, it seemed, was that the bald eagle was in a bit of a food coma.

“It’s NOT hurt, likely ate a deer (their words) and it makes them basically unable to fly for 24-48 hours,” her caption read, adding, “Just hoping you enjoy the beauty as much as we are.”

Stacy added that they’re “beyond thankful for the experience,” as was their grandson, who they FaceTimed to offer a glimpse of the phenomenal sighting.
