The Ministry of Public Works will rebuild Al Khoziny Sidoarjo Ponpes
Jakarta – The government will rebuild the Al Khoziny Sidoarjo Islamic boarding school (Ponpes), East Java, after it has collapsed and caused dozens of accidents. This rebuild is to expect a similar incident to occur again. “But my estimate, yesterday I went there, is that the green building is cheaper when it is broken down, which is newly built from scratch, rather than cleaning it up,” Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo said after meeting on Tuesday (7/10/2025) with the coordination of Premier Muhaimin Iskandar. Dody did not set out the budget provided to rebuild the Islamic residence. Budget calculations are still performed. The incident with the collapse of the Al Khoziny Islamic boarding school building is believed to be due to an inappropriate building. This Islamic boarding school also does not have a permit for the approval of the building. Dody believes that many Islamic residences still take PBG permits for granted. According to Dody, this permit is an important element to ensure whether the building can be used or not. “Yes, perhaps because Islamic residences like students for students, so they think they don’t need a permit. In fact, the permit is to ensure that what is being built matches the norms, column quality, structural quality and so on,” he said. As is known, Al Khoziny Islamic boarding school in the Buduran district, Sidoarjo, collapsed on September 29. A total of 67 people were killed as a result of the incident. After more than a week, the search operation for victims of the building collapse ended today. Basarnas said 104 people survived and that 67 victims were dead, including 8 body parts.
