Ubwa -Founder denies claims of the distraction of the N200 million intended for land investment, in case of the death of the complainant in the police
The founder of the United Business Women Association (Ubwa), Chief Amb. Nkiruka Duru, has denied the recent allegations distributed on social media, that she was involved in a fraudulent land investment scheme involving more than N200 million. Duru described the claims as unfounded and malicious, saying that the allegations were the result of the malicious actions of breakers aimed at damaging her reputation and causing unjustified public outrage. In a statement signed by Duru, she expressed deep disappointment that her philanthropic efforts to lift the lives of widows and women across Nigeria were undermined by a series of falsehoods, especially with regard to the controversial Achala land agreement. The allegations also involved the late Uju Ezeobi, a former member of Ubwa, who served as the legal adviser of the organization. Duru remembers that Ubwa, which was founded during the Covid-19 pandemic in February 2020, began to provide palliative support to widows and underprivileged women in various local government areas in Anambra and later expanded to other states and beyond. However, she said it was in 2021 when Uju Ezeobi, who said she claimed to be an advocate, approached her and offered her to work with the organization on a land acquisition project. According to her, the idea behind the Achala land investment to acquire land in the Achala community of AWKA North local government area was, with the aim of developing an UBWA estate for its members. Duru explained that, after losing the necessary caution by Ezeobi, the association went forward with the purchase of land, and paid a total of N101 million to a local broker, Mr. Okechukwu Okoye, who promised to facilitate the sale of 2000 plots. She noted that the plots were priced for UBWA members and N300,000 for non-members at N250,000. However, she claimed that it soon appeared that Okoye incorrectly raised the funds, while the Achalla community rejected the transaction and Ubwa refused access to the land. Duru claims that Okoye did not deliver the promised land, and the community claims that no payment was made to them. Despite this setback, Duru declared that she continued her efforts to ensure that the money was properly taken into account, even in July 2024 the matter to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Duru further outlined how Uju Ezeobi in 2023 was a secondary land acquisition of the Umudiana family in Achalla. At the time, Duru was allegedly ill and had the responsibility to sell Ezeobi and the Ubwa Secretary, Mrs. Chinwe Ekunie, to drive. However, Duru claimed that she soon discovered that Ezeobi had raised land prices without approval, which increased the amount from N360,000 to N520,000 per plot, contrary to the pricing policy of Ubwa. Ezeobi was also accused of forged signatures and removed Duru from the country’s bank account. The statement reads: “I told Uju Ezeobi as one of our advocates, and she told me to give her two weeks to inquire. After the two -week expiration, Uju Ezeobi said Ubwa could continue to buy.” I told Mr. Then Mr. Okechukwu Okoye provided his personal account number, I told Uju Ezeobi about it, which she approved, and said that it would not be a problem because according to her investigation, the man was a middleman for the Achalla community. “Mr Okechukwu Okoye sold the land to me at a rate of 200,000 Naira per plot, and we said that Ubwa members have to pay 250,000 Naira for each plot, while we said that non-members have to pay 300,000 Naira.” After some time, Uju Ezeobi pleaded that there were about 60 people (non-members). Initially, I just accepted that she would raise higher amounts of money with the people, but at a rate of 250,000 for those 60 plots or more. ‘After paying up to 101 million Naira to Mr Okechukwu Okoye, we decided to take possession of the land. Was how our millions of Naira went in Limbo. “Before we caught Mr. Okechukwu Okoye, he paid 11 million Naira to Umudiana family in Achalla for a fresh ground act and rushed to court to submit a case against me Nkiruka Duru and Uju Ezeobi as defendants who charged us to pay for 2000 plots of the country. Remaining 90 million Naira taken to EFCC in July 2024, and Uju Ezeobi was very aware of it. 2022 in the problem, Mr. I delegated Uju Ezeobi and Ubwa Secretary, Mrs Chinwe Ekunie, to handle the sale of the new Umudiana family Achalla country. Uju Ezeobi also removed my name as a signer at the land documents. Uju removed my son’s name as a signer and forged the signature of my older sister, who was also a signatory of the land documents. She did all this without my consent and claimed that she did it to enable easy access to funds and land documentation because I was not readily available due to illness. “What broke the back of the camel was that Uju Ezeobi faced the policy of our organization by increasing the price of land because we arranged in all the places we bought or sold, at Urum, Delta, Kuje, Nazarawa, etc. Give, managed by other UBWA advocates who have had no problems, is that we can change a price for members, not the members who sell the plots. ‘ Ubwa WhatsApp platform and saw that UJU increased the amount of 360,000 Naira to 420,000 Naira. When I asked her, she said that Achalla youths demanded extra money for settlement. After a while UJU raised the amount again to 520,000 Naira, and I couldn’t stand it anymore. “On Saturday, March 29, 2025, Saharan Porters reported that Uju Ezeobi, a complainant of an alleged multi-million-Naira scam involved, was arrested after the death of Nigerian police (Zonbra, in the Nigerian police.
