The Ministry of Health and Population announced the continued provision of outpatient services for addiction treatment of the General Secretariat of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, within the framework of the Egyptian state’s keenness to support mental health, combat addiction, and promote public health of citizens, especially groups most vulnerable to risk.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the initiative continued to provide its services through the damage units, as the number of regular people in these units reached 870 citizens during the month of August, and 585 cases were introduced to the internal departments for treatment, bringing the total cases since the start of the initiative in November 2024 to 5 thousand and 223 cases. He added that 245 patients successfully completed the treatment program during August, bringing the total 2,401 cases of improvement since the initiative began.

For his part, Dr. Ayman Abbas, Head of the Central Administration of the General Secretariat of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, indicated that the number of joining cases of relapse protection program has reached 857 cases so far, while the number of beneficiaries of awareness seminars inside hospitals reached 845 citizens during August, bringing the total to 53 thousand and 197 beneficiaries. The number of beneficiaries of community seminars reached 213 thousand and 566 citizens.

Abbas added that the total number of students benefiting from awareness programs reached 456 thousand and 995 students, through 10 thousand and 417 awareness sessions since the start of the initiative, within the framework of preventing addiction among school students.

He also pointed to the continued conduct of the detection of narcotic drug use, as 4 thousand and 360 employees of the state administrative apparatus were examined during August, with a total of 54 thousand and 961 analyzes so far. Also, the number of drivers who had the analyzes reached 17 thousand and 136 drivers during the same month, bringing the total to 58 thousand and 548 drivers.

For her part, Dr. Raghda Al -Jamil, Director of the Addiction Treatment Department of the General Secretariat of Mental Health, explained that the initiative is implementing a training program for workers in primary care centers, where 50 individuals were trained with the participation of 22 centers of the total centers participating in providing treatment and awareness services.

She emphasized that these efforts come within the framework of an integrated vision that depends on the expansion of prevention and treatment services, and the integration of mental health services within the primary care system, in a manner that ensures easy access to services, and achieving prevention and early detection, which reflects positively on improving the quality of life for citizens.
