Cloud seed: CPCB does not consider artificial rainfall as practical and the Delhi government awaits NOC - Cloud Seeds Delhi awaits NOC, as CPCB considers artificial rain impractical

The Delhi government is preparing to perform a trial of artificial rainfall, for which it is compulsory to get NOC of all departments, but CPCB has described it as impractical, as there is not enough moisture in winter. It must now be seen whether the CPCB gives NOC this time or not. State Bureau, Jagran, New -Delhi: Although the government of Delhi is preparing for the trial of artificial rainfall, but until the NOC of all departments and agencies is found, there can be no hearing. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) declared artificial rain as impractical to solve the problem of air pollution just eight months ago. On May 7, the government approved at a cabinet meeting for five trials for artificial rainfall. The cost of each cloud seed hearing will amount to approximately 55 lakhs. Five trials must be held on which 2.75 crores will cost five trials; The total estimated expenses are 2.75 crores. In addition, a one -time arrangement such as the calibration of the aircraft, the expenses of 66 lakhs for the chemical storage exposers. The project is operated by IIT Kanpur, which will monitor the entire project plan, aircraft deployment, chemical spraying, scientific modeling and trials. The first hearing can be held at the end of May or June 2025, which will be performed in an area of approximately 100 square km, mainly on the outskirts of Delhi. According to the Minister of Environmental Affairs, according to Zjinder Singh Sirsa, who is waiting for departments for NOC, letters have been sent to all the 13 government departments and agencies for the hearing for NOC. Now approval is waiting. Among them, CPCB and meteorological department are also very important. In September 2024, CPCB rejected the request of the then Minister of Environmental Affairs, Gopal Rai of the capital for the trial of artificial rainfall itself. The CPCB told the advice of the meteorological department, following an RTI of the important social activist Amit Gupta on November 14, 2024, the CPCB gave its answer in this regard on the basis of input from IIT Kanpur and Meteorological Department. Said, artificial rainfall in Delhi cannot be considered a practical option to handle air pollution. The reason, during the winter, when air pollution is at its peak, does not have enough moisture in the air. It is very important for the impenetrable artificial rainfall. Cloud sowing should have 50 percent or more moist clouds. The CPCB also described the advice of the meteorological department for the trial as very important. In such a situation, it will now be interesting to see if CPCB NOC this time gives the trial of artificial rainfall. If it gives, what will be the basis and not give it, what will be the logic?
