Manipur celebrated World Prevention Day amid increasing mental health problems
Imphal, September 10 (IANS). Mental health challenges are increasing in the state due to long unrest, with a view to the fact that Manipur celebrated the world’s suicide prevention day with the theme “changing approach to suicide” at Utility Hall of Commerce College under DM University in IMPHAL. The event was organized by the National Mental Health Program (NMHP), National Health Mission (NHM) and the Health Directorate, Manipur. Dr. Runita Devi emphasized NMHP’s state button officer that the suicide rate (about 1.2 per lakh) in Manipur is much lower than 12.4 per lakh, but there has been a slight increase in the continued crisis over the past year. He said that problems with mental health such as anxiety, stress and mood disorder increased, which became worse due to violence, displacement and poor conditions in relief camps. The Department of Health has strengthened the awareness campaign, counseling services and treatment campaigns, including more than 930 attacks, free medicine and district-level Mental Health Services of Assistance Camps. Despite all efforts, five suicide has been recorded in the internal displaced individuals (IDPs), which exposes community -based support, lack of stigma and immediate need for better access to healthcare. The program also broadcast Helpline for Mental Health through mass media to start awareness material on local transport, group discussion for students, and to increase suicide prevention efforts in all 16 districts of Manipur. The program was attended by chief health officials, including the Director of Health Services, Dr. Chambo Gonmei, director of family welfare services, dr. A Hemantkumar Singh, Additional Director of the Health Services (MD), dr. N Bino Singh, Manaviki Vidyalaya DMU’s Dean professor Sagolsem Launchba Metei and NMHP’s state -nodal officer atokapam Runita Devi. -Ians Ash/GKT shares this story Tags
