The seed reserves that were kept safe were also destroyed due to the flood, which is likely to have a serious impact on the upcoming harvests. Two and a half thousand bags (1,000 quintals) of wheat seeds are being sent to Punjab by the agriculture department and Uttar Pradesh Seed and Development Corporation. This seed is of BB-327 variety which is also known as Karan Shivani. It is a disease-resistant, bio-fortified and nutritious variety, which is ready in just 155 days. Capable of yielding up to 80 quintals per hectare. Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi and External Affairs Minister Baldev Singh Aulakh were also present on this occasion. Seed park will be built in the name of Chaudhary Charan Singh. The Chief Minister said that a seed park would be established in the memory of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh in Lucknow. Apart from this, the work of setting up five other seed parks is also in progress. If farmers get improved and quality seeds in time, their costs reduce and production increases. If the seeds are late or of poor quality, there is a possibility that production will decrease by 30 to 50 percent. The state’s share in the total cultivable land of the country is only 11 percent, but it contributes 21 percent to the total food grain production. Along with Diwali, which symbolizes the life of Guru Hargobind Ji Maharaj, service and sacrifice, the birth anniversary of the sixth Guru of the Sikh tradition, Sri Guru Hargobind Ji Maharaj, is also celebrated in Punjab. He presented a unique example of service to humanity by freeing more than 52 kings from exile. The Chief Minister said that his life is a symbol of service and sacrifice. When Guru Hargobind Ji Maharaj reached Harmandir Sahib, lamps were lit all over Punjab to celebrate his arrival.
