TMC accuses BJP of the politicization of Durgapur gangrape incident
Kolkata, October 11 (IANS). Following the incident of gang rape of a second-year medical student outside a private medical college in Durgapur in the Western Burdwan district in West Bengal, the Trinamol Congress (TMC) held the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government on Saturday responsible for the gang’s rape of a female university student. In response to the sharp political attacks of BJP on the Durgapur gangrape incident, Shashi Panja, women in the Western Bengals and the Minister of Child Welfare said that even in Odisha, where the BJP government is in power, an incident of rape of a university student recently occurred. Panja said: “The student in Odisha set herself on fire so that questions should not be raised on a single incident. He claimed that the Western Bengal police began the investigation immediately after receiving information about the case. Panja said: “The parents of the victim reached Durgapur (West Bengal) of Odisha. They expressed confidence in the state police investigation. The BJP politicized the issue unnecessarily. Politics on sexual harassment against women were never appropriate.” In response to the statement by Shashi Panja about raping a woman in Western Bengals, BJP Mla Agnimitra Paul said that even if he was arrested in Kolkata’s RG whether it was the case of rape and murder in the car Medical College and the hospital or the recent rape incident in Durgapur, crimes against women. Paul further said: “The accused knows very well that the leaders of the ruling Trinamole congress are there to protect them. The law and order in the Western Bengals has broken down completely. No woman is now safe in the Western Bengals.” Earlier Saturday, the leader of the opposition Subhendu Adhikari said West Bengals should follow Uttar Pradesh’s model to punish rape culprits. –Is MS/DKP Share This Story Tags
