To perform better in golf, we need to work on our mentality: Shubhankar Sharma

New Delhi, October 19 (IANS). DP World India Championship has come as a great opportunity for Indian golf professionals. Never before has such a grand event been organized in India. World number two Rory McIlroy and world number five Tommy Fleetwood also took part in the event. The prize money of the championship was 4 million dollars. Talking about the performance of Indian golfers in the DP World Indian Championship, Shiv Kapoor (72-69-70-68) had the best performance of equal 32nd position with a score of 9-under 279. Dhruv Sheoran (68-73-67-72) shot 72 in the final round to finish tied 36th and Shubirban, 8-under Shubhan. Lahiri finished tied for 56th at 3-under 285. Abhinav Lohan finished tied for 63rd (1-under 287). 26 Indians participated in the championship, out of which only five made the cut. No Indian player could leave his mark. If players like Gaganjit Bhullar and SSP Chaurasia did not receive invitations to the local Professional Golf Tournament of India (PGTI) event due to their association with the IGPL, then a few more Indians could have participated in the event. Gaganjeet Bhullar was the last Indian to win a European competition. Bhullar won the Fiji International in 2018. The last time an Indian won an international event at the DGC was in August 2018, when Khalin Joshi won the Panasonic Open. Shubhankar also won on the European Tour in February 2018. Shubhankar Sharma said: “It is difficult to get used to different tracks and conditions. I have been on the European Tour for quite some time now. I know that in terms of skills we are world class. We are a bit weak mentally.” –IANS PAK Share this story Tags
