From September 22, hotel rooms up to Rs 7500 per day only have 5% GST, but hotel owners will not be able to claim input tax credit. Land and physical toilet services will also be charged 5% GST. On Tuesday, an explanation was issued by the Ministry of Finance regarding the new GST tariffs. Below, only five percent GST will be attached to the room from 22 September with up to Rs 7500 per day or less in the hotel. Until now, it has been said that if the hotel owner claims ITC in a room with less than 7500, he could restore 18 percent GST on these rooms. However, the government has made it clear that there is no such option and in such a situation only five percent GST will be attached. Similarly, only five percent GST will be charged on cosmetics and physical toilet service (gym etc.), and 18 percent GST facility is not available with ITC for this service. The government reiterated that the health and life insurance that must be purchased individually was completely freed from GST and that they would not be charged. Rajat Mohan, senior partne of Amrg & Associates, said that when the GST law determines a five percent concession rate of ITC, it effectively denies the credit on the input and considers such offer equal to the services.
