TPU in Jakarta is full of problems, Pramono will hold a special meeting next week
Jakarta – DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has revealed that the condition of a number of public cemeteries (TPUs) in the Jakarta area is becoming a problem. To find a solution, Pramono will hold a special meeting next week. “We communicated, and I asked that next week we will hold a special meeting regarding funerals in Jakarta,” Pramono said at Dukuh Atas MRT Station, Central Jakarta on Wednesday (10/22/2025). Pramono said that the DKI Provincial Government is currently collecting complete data from the Parks and City Forest Service on the capacity and availability of land in all TPUs. According to him, this step is important to map the level of urgency and determine future policy direction. Scroll TO CONTINUE CONTENT “As for the numbers, the Parks Department will tell you later. When I have the details, I will reply again,” he said. It is known that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is studying various options, including the idea of building a multi-storey cemetery to overcome limited land in the capital. Pramono assesses that the issue of the availability of cemetery land is one of the challenges that Jakarta is currently facing. “This is indeed a problem now and is being studied. There is a proposal, but it has not yet been decided whether multi-level burials are allowed,” said Pramono. The DKI Provincial Government is also considering the option of opening a new cemetery outside the Jakarta area. However, the final decision regarding this policy will be determined after technical and legal studies are completed. “Some suggested making the cemetery outside Jakarta. We are currently thinking about it, and soon I will decide,” he explained. Nine TPUs in South Jakarta are known to no longer accept new graves. This is because the land at the nine TPUs is already full. “The TPU covers West Tanjung, Jagakarsa, Kampung Kongsi, South Grogol, Kebagusan, Pisangan, East Pejaten, West Pejaten and Cikoko,” Arwin Adlin Barus, head of the trails and cemeteries division of the Department of Parks and Forestry in South Jakarta, said when asked, quoted by Antara, Monday (20/10).
