Jakarta – The cemetery crisis in Jakarta has made the DKI Provincial Government consider collaborating with surrounding areas, such as Depok and Tangerang. This scheme is said to be a medium-term solution to the limited TPU land in the capital. “The DKI Provincial Government is considering collaborating with surrounding areas such as Depok and Tangerang. This scheme is said to be a medium-term solution for the limited TPU land in the capital,” said head of the DKI City Parks and Forest Service, Fajar Sauri, in Kalibata, South Jakarta, Friday (24/10/2025). Even so, Fajar has to ask DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung for permission to cooperate with the buffer areas. Previously, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) considered proposals related to regional cooperation to solve the limited burial space in the capital. Fajar Sauri said that the proposal has been raised within the Jakarta Provincial Government and will be studied. “There is (a proposal regarding regional cooperation). The plan is already there. Later we have to review it again. Maybe if we can cooperate with the regions, we can set up a TPU outside Jakarta,” said Fajar in the Koja area, North Jakarta, on Thursday (10/23). However, Fajar said there is already land planned to be created for a new Public Cemetery (TPU). He said the location was in the Tegal Alur area, Kalideres, West Jakarta, which had a land area of 66 hectares. “It’s something we can use in the future. It could be potential for a new cemetery,” he said. Nevertheless, he admitted that Jakarta often faces resistance from residents when they want to build a new TPU. However, if the residential area is connected to the TPU, Fajar said expanding the cemetery would not be a problem. (azh/azh)
