Due to the traffic problem in the tunnel, people are facing a lot of trouble and questions are being raised about the planning of NHAI whether they have anticipated this situation beforehand. A major flaw in the planning of Dwarka Expressway Tunnel has started to come to light. The tunnel is designed to handle an average of maximum 2.5 lakh vehicles per day, while the number of vehicles passing through has reached over 1 lakh 84 thousand within six months of its commissioning. In such a situation, there is a fear that the number of vehicles will reach the prescribed capacity within a year. Due to this situation, questions are raised about the planning of NHAI because any project is planned keeping in mind the next 30 years. A tunnel was built to provide direct connection from the highway to the airport. This tunnel extends from near Yashobhoomi to near the airport. UER-2 is connected to Dwarka Expressway so that the connectivity of UER-2 with the airport also improves. After connecting UER-2 with Dwarka Expressway, the pressure of vehicles in the tunnel is increasing rapidly day by day. On October 15, more than one lakh 40 thousand vehicles came out, while on October 16, this number reached more than one lakh 60 thousand. On October 17, more than 1 lakh 84 thousand vehicles passed while the design of the tunnel is according to an average of 2.5 lakh vehicles per day. As the number of vehicles increases, there is a possibility that the number of vehicles will exceed the capacity within the next one year. Because of this situation, serious questions about planning are raised. The question is that when NHAI officials knew that UER-2 would be connected to Dwarka Expressway, then why was the design of the tunnel not changed? Engineer Hardeep Singh, resident of Sector-40, who regularly passes through the tunnel, says there is already heavy pressure from vehicles in the tunnel during peak hours. This is the situation when many people do not know that UER-2 is further connected to Dwarka Expressway. During the construction of UER-2, the construction of the tunnel was also underway. In such a situation, a lack of design shows a lack of forward thinking. The situation is such that if even one vehicle stops somewhere in the tunnel, then a long traffic jam will occur within seconds. In this regard, the NHAI official says that there will soon be an effort to ensure that the pressure of vehicles in the tunnel does not increase. Many expressways and highways are connected to UER-2. Due to this, it has become easy to reach the airport from many areas. A way will soon be found to ensure that the pressure of vehicles does not increase in the tunnel. “NHAI prepares any project keeping in mind the next 30 years. There is a huge deficiency in the planning of Dwarka expressway tunnel. The growing fear of planning failure within a year shows that the officials lack experience. All those who planned the design, prepared and made the DPR should be questioned. The problem is that there is no action, hence negligence.” -JS Suhag, Former Technical Advisor, NHAI Also Read- Entry of these vehicles banned on Gurugram-Delhi and Dwarka expressway, traffic police issued advisory
