'Tragedy for cricket world': Jay Shah offers condolences to Afghan cricketers who lost their lives in Pakistan airstrike
New Delhi, October 18 (IANS). ICC President Jay Shah has condoled the death of three young cricketers from Afghanistan who were killed in Pakistan’s airstrike. Shah expressed his condolences through social media. Jay Shah wrote on Afghanistan Cricket Board also condemned the airstrike by Pakistan on social media and expressed condolences to the families of the three deceased young cricketers. “The attack resulted in the loss of a number of lives, including three local cricketers who were returning home after playing a friendly match in Sharana, the capital of Paktika province. The ACB considers this a great loss to Afghanistan’s sports community, its athletes and the cricket family,” the ACB claimed on Twitter. The ACB said out of respect for the victims, it has decided not to participate in the upcoming triangular T20 International series to be held in Pakistan. Let us tell you that there would be a triangular T20 series between Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. Zimbabwe is now included in place of Afghanistan. BCCI also expressed its condolences to the young cricketers of Afghanistan who were killed in Pakistan’s airstrike. The Board stands in solidarity with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), the cricket community and the families of the deceased players in this hour of grief and condemns this heinous and unjustified attack, the BCCI said in a statement. BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia said on Saturday, “The loss of innocent lives, especially of promising players, is extremely sad and a matter of concern. We express our deepest condolences to the people of Afghanistan and share in their grief and loss.” The International Cricket Council (ICC) has also expressed its extreme sadness and shock over the tragic death of three young Afghan cricketers in the recent airstrike in the Paktika province of Afghanistan. Cricket’s peak body said we strongly condemn the attack that snatched three talented players from families, communities and the world of cricket whose only ambition was to play the game they love. –IANS SUIT
