Trump accuses George Soros and son of supporting violent protests in the US, seeking criminal charges against them

US President Donald Trump has called on billionaire George Soros and his son Alex to face criminal charges, claiming to have supported violent protests in the US. The Foundations of the Open Society denied the allegations, saying that they supported peaceful protest and free speech. US President Donald Trump has accused George and Alex Soros of orchestrating violent protests and on Wednesday (August 27) asked US President Donald Trump to face billionaire George Soros and his son, Alex, to face criminal charges, claiming they were behind violent protests. Trump posted on his social platform and wrote: “George Soros, and his wonderful radical left son, must be charged with Rico because of their support for violent protests, and much more.” Rico refers to federal law that targets organized criminal activities. Trump did not provide specific evidence for his claim. Soros Foundation denies the allegations that the Open Society Foundations, the philanthropic organization founded by George Soros, rejected Trump’s accusations as false. A spokesman told AFP: “These accusations are scandalous and false. The foundations of the Open Society not support or finance violent protests.” The statement added that the foundations advocate for “rights to free speech and peaceful protests that are characteristics of any live democracy.” The context of conspiracy theories, the Hungarian -born George Soros, 95, was a regular target of right -wing conspiracy theories, often linked to his support for progressive causes and the Democratic Party. In June, protests in Los Angeles against increasing immigration attacks raised unfounded demands that groups orchestrated by Soros orchestrated violent actions. Trump further claimed about Truth Social: “Soros and his group of psychopaths, our country has done great damage! That includes its crazy, West Coast friends. We’re not going to let these wanderings tear America more apart. Be careful, we are watching you!” Political and personal grievances Trump has previously blamed Soros for personal and political setbacks, including his conviction in 2024 related to Hush money payments, and claims that the financier affected the prosecutor who handled the case. Alex Soros, who is now overseeing the Foundations of the Open Society, publicly supported Trump’s 2024 Democratic opponent Vice President Kamala Harris.
