Türkiye farm fines on 13 poultry companies to harm the competition

The competition in Türkiye imposed fines of 3.7 billion pounds ($ 89 million) on poultry producers, claiming that they exchange information that harms the competition level in the market. The government said in a statement issued on Saturday that a comprehensive investigation has ended the post prices in the sector. She added that poultry businesses became obliged to apply price lists as soon as buyers were announced to prevent the exchange of information between them. Eight companies, including the Banvit Bandirma Vitaminli Yem Sanayi, are listed on the stock exchange, with a total amount of approximately 2.7 billion pounds, while five other companies entered into approximately one billion pound after closing settlement agreements. The ownership of “BBQ Foods”, “TBQ Foods”, is a general entity between Qatar Holding and Braille BRF, while other companies are subject to a private ownership. The government said that “the fines and procedures taken will cause a fundamental shift in long -term habits in the sector.” The body, based in Ankara, has strengthened its investigations in various sectors after inflation has accelerated from 2021 since the last months, where it jumped to 85.5% in 2022. Administrative fines in the first half of 2024 reached about 4.15 billion pounds, an increase of 56% compared to the entire year of 2023.
