Chatra, October 17 (IANS). On Friday, two die-hard Naxalites from the banned Naxalite organization TSPC (Third Conference Presentation Committee) laid down their arms before the police in Chatra district of Jharkhand. Those who surrendered include the organization’s area commander Kunal alias Kuldeep and Rohini Ganjhu. There was a reward of Rs 1 lakh each for both. According to the surrender policy of the government, the check of the reward amount was given to him immediately. Both Naxalites reached the meeting room of the deputy commissioner’s office in the district to surrender before Bokaro Zone IG Sunil Bhaskar. During this, Border Security Force’s Manvendra Kumar Singh, DC Kirti, SP Sumit Kumar Aggarwal and SSB Commandant Sanjeev Kumar were also present. During the surrender, the Naxalites handed over one SLR rifle, one half-rifle and about 200 rounds of live cartridges to the police. According to officials, there are 16 criminal cases registered against area commander Kunal in Chatra and Palamu districts, while there are more than 10 serious cases against Rohini Ganjhu. SP Sumit Kumar Aggarwal said that through constant communication and encouragement both the Naxalites were motivated to surrender. In recent months, Naxalite organizations have weakened due to continuous operations and action by security forces in various districts of Jharkhand. The government has made a special policy called ‘Nayi Dishayan’ for the surrendered Naxalites, under which, after returning to the mainstream, they are kept in an open jail and given legal aid. The education of their children is also organized by the government. The government also provides financial help for their rehabilitation. A total of 266 Naxalites were arrested in the state from January to September this year, while 30 surrendered and returned to the mainstream during this period. So far this year, 32 Naxalites have been killed in separate incidents of encounter. –IANS SNC/ABM Share this story Tags
