Ujjain: Mayor's laudable initiative on Diwali, relief to retailers
Ujjain, October 18 (IANS). On the occasion of Diwali, Ujjain Mayor Mukesh Tatwal has taken a unique and commendable initiative. He visited the market of Freeganj area and bought goods from local retailers to encourage them. During this time, MIC members and local councilors were also present with him. The mayor bought all the lamps from a woman shop owner who was selling lamps with a small child on her lap and distributed them for free to other people in the market. This emotional step created an atmosphere of happiness and enthusiasm among the local people. The Mayor also made an important announcement on this occasion. He told that during the festive season of Diwali, special relief will be given by the Municipal Corporation to the traders who set up shops on the footpath. For the next three days, no fee will be charged from these traders to do business on the footpath. The purpose of this decision is to provide financial assistance to small traders and promote their business. Speaking to the media, Mayor Mukesh Tatwal said, “This holy occasion of Diwali brings happiness to all of us. Our villagers and local traders sell handmade items on the footpath. We have to trust them because they are manufactured in our country and in Ujjain.” He made special mention of the lady shopkeeper who diligently made and sold lamps with her small child. By buying their lamps, the Mayor not only honored their hard work, but also inspired other people to buy local products. He appealed to the city residents to shop from local and retail traders on the occasion of Diwali. He said that the promotion of local products will not only boost the livelihood of small traders but also strengthen the economy of Ujjain. This initiative created an atmosphere of enthusiasm among the local artisans and traders in the city. This initiative of the Mayor was greatly appreciated by the local people.
