Bus travel in Mumbai is going to be expensive as BMC approves a major increase in the Best's rates

More than 31 lakh passengers traveling daily in Mumbai by bus will increase the burden on the bags as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has approved a significant increase in the rates of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (Best) bus services. Under the new structure, the minimum price for both AC and Non-A-Busse will double. The best officials confirmed that the amendment of rates was essential due to the serious financial condition of the business. Although the proposal is still awaiting the final approval of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA), BMC and the best administration have been prepared to implement the revised rent soon. According to the decision, the minimum price of non-A-A-Rs 5 to Rs 10 will rise and AC buses will increase from Rs 6 to Rs 12. In the last decade, BMC has subsidized more than Rs 11,000 crore to maintain the best. Nevertheless, the business runs in losses. The municipal body, citing budgetary barriers, has now refused to provide further financial assistance and said that the tariff increase is the only viable option. Officials have argued that this step is needed to make the bus network stable and modern. However, this decision caused dissatisfaction among the passengers. The fear of the increasing burden of passengers, and to private transport, has expressed concern that increased tariffs will have adverse effects on low and moderate income passengers. Many people have warned that this could lead to overcrowded suburban trains or private vehicles, causing traffic congestion and air pollution conditions in the city.
