Many traditions of praying for good rain are common in the rural areas of Rajsamand, Rajasthan. One such tradition was celebrated with great pomp and devotion in Baman Tukkha village of the district. It was celebrated under the Samudra Manthan programme. A large number of devotees, saints and villagers participated in this grand programme. The women made a lake by throwing soil for a month. The special feature of this program was that the women of the village worked hard for a month to make a lake by throwing soil. After its completion, Indra and Lord Vishnu were worshiped there. This was followed by joint Aarti and Abhishek (consecration of water), which filled the entire atmosphere with devotion. The Mudra Manthan tableau captivated the audience. The program included cultural programs and very engaging tableaus. The tableau of Samudra Manthan mesmerized everyone. The tableau depicted the mythological story of the churning of the sea through the action of gods and demons very well. The sight of Lord Vishnu, Shiva and different Gods and Goddesses impressed the devotees. Cultural programs like bhajan, kirtan and religious dance mesmerized the audience as well as the villagers. Deepak Daan and Havan played special roles. Daily donations and hawan played a special role at the place. Members of the local administration and organizing committee said that this program will connect the society with culture, tradition and the power of cooperation.
