UPI soars, sets new record on Dhanteras, transaction amount crosses ₹ 1.02 lakh crore

The number of UPI transactions on Dhanteras crossed 75.4 billion and the total transaction amount reached Rs 1.02 lakh crore. UPI is a real-time payment system. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Thursday (October 23) that transactions worth Rs 1.02 lakh crore took place through the UPI platform on October 18, i.e. Dhanteras, and the number of transactions during this period was 75.4 crore, which is the highest number of transactions in a day so far. The Finance Minister said that the average number of transactions on UPI during the 3 days from Dhanteras to Diwali was 73.69 crore, which was 64.74 crore in the same period last year. He further said Diwali was a blast for retail shoppers this year and the cut in GST rates led to an increase in consumption, giving the middle class an opportunity to do more shopping within their budget this festive season. The Finance Minister further said that there has been growth in both the large and premium segments of the market, from lab-grown diamonds to casual wear and home decoration products. The sales of goods in the festive season reached a record of Rs 5.40 lakh crore. According to industry body Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), sales of goods in the festive season from Navratri to Diwali hit a record Rs 5.40 lakh crore. Reached Rs.
